早於九鐵巴士部成立第二個年頭,空調巴士已經出現於車隊中,這便是豐田二十四座小型巴士,主要用於偏遠地區的接駁服務。及後,為了提高服務質素,九鐵巴士部於是引進更多的空調巴士,其中由於當年小型巴士行走的區域路面環境惡劣,令這批巴士出現非常大的損耗,急需替換,加上為屋村提供短途的接駁服務,九鐵巴士部在購車訂單上除了二十四部雙層空調巴士外,也包括十一部中型空調巴士,進一步提升服務質素。
最後,九鐵選擇引進三菱MK
117J中型巴士,並全數在一九九一年底前投入服務。在更早之前,九巴已經引進一批同款巴士行走屋村接駁線,效果顯著,加上可能當年巿場上可供選擇的車款不多,令三菱輕易贏得九鐵的訂單。在外觀及機械配搭上,九鐵三菱跟九巴完全一樣,但在車廂佈局方面,九鐵選取了多企位的設計,總共可運載五十一位乘客,這都拜車廂前半部採取一加一座位設計,後半部則維持二加二座位設計所賜。
新車投入服務後,主要行走接駁元朗巿及朗屏村之670線,以及取代昔日由豐田小型巴士提供服務之A51及520路線。及後,往返九鐵大埔滘職員宿舍及大埔火車站的50R也出現有三菱巴士蹤影。另外,九鐵巴士部曾經為火炭駿景廣場提供穿梭巴士服務,用車正是兩架(其中一架是311)三菱MK
117J中型巴士,而且更被鬆上駿景廣場全車身廣告。
隨著西鐵通車所帶來巴士路線網絡轉變,三菱巴士在九鐵巴士部中扮演之角色又有所改變,三菱巴士不用再全情投入龍鼓灘路線,所擔綱的是支援角色,活躍於屯門及天水圍西鐵接駁路線如K53,K75及A73等路線,而唯一不變是,在長達十八年服務年期,車頭一直保留著完好的三菱車廠廠徽。
隨著九鐵跟地鐵於二零零七年十二月二日合併成港鐵,所有九鐵巴士部巴士包括全數三菱中型巴士由當天開始轉由港鐵巴士部營運。二零零八年八月,307及311率先退役,其角色由全新的亞歷山大丹尼士飛鏢E200陸續取代,最後一架三菱MK中型巴士309於二零零九年三月初退役,標誌著這款日本製造巴士從港鐵車隊中退下來。
During 1988, a year ago of the
establishment of KCRC Bus Division, air-con buses were first appeared with the introduction of Toyota Coaster 24-seats minibuses. KCRC Bus Division
deployed the minibus on the routes that linking with remote areas like Lung
Kwu Tan, Tap Shek Kok and Tai Lam. In 1989, to provide the same service standard
as the train, KCRC Bus Division decided to upgrade their fleet by introduced
a batch of air-conditioned buses. As we mentioned before, KCRC Bus Division
already operated a batch of minibuses serving the remote area,
however, the poor road conditions made the minibuses have an
excessive wear and urgently need replacing. As a result, KCRC decide to introduce a batch of midibuses.
After a series of tendering process, Mitsubishi won the contract and supplied 11 MK117J to KCRC. Before the commissioned of the KCRC sample, KMB were already operated a batch of Mitsubishi MK. The MK117J of KMB mainly deployed on estate feeder service with an
excellent performance. In addition, probably there were not much choice for midibuses in the market, made Mitsubishi get this tender easily. All Mitsubishi MK117J were delivered to KCRC before the end of 1991. Though the bodyworks and mechanic specification are same as those KMB Mitsubishi MK, the capacity and seating arrangements are different. The
seating configuration of these batch of Mitsubishi MK is 1+1 at the front while
2+2 at the back. All Mitsubishi MK117Js can carry up to 51 passengers benefited from
more standees.
Instead of serving route
670, operated between Long Ping Estate and the Yuen Long Town, they also served
the remote area used to serve by the Toyota Coaster and the shuttle service of
the Tai Po Kau staff Quarters. The shuttle service of Ascot Plaza were
once operated by KCRC Mitsubishi MK with an overall advertisement.
After the reconstruction of the
feeder service networks, the role of the KCRC Mitsubishi MK had been changed in
the fleet. They did not need to concentrate on the feeder service
linked with the remote area and mainly deployed on the WR feeder service in Tuen Mun and
Tin Shui Wai like K53, K75 and A73. Fortunately, all Mitsubishi MKs were keep in a good conditions and an intact badge of Mitsubishi were remained on all MKs.
KCRC were merged into MTR on 2, Dec. 2007 and all buses of KCRC Bus Division were then operated by MTR Bus Division including all Mitsubishi MK midibuses. 307 and 311 were delicensed in Aug. 2008 and the brand new Alexander Dennis Enviro200Dart took their role in the fleet gradually. The last Mitsubishi MK, 309, was withdrawn from service in Mar. 2009 and the age of Japan bus model in KCR/MTR Bus Division was come to an end.
